Adoption & Foster Support Group
Whether you are in the process, still waiting, or are currently parenting an adopted
or foster child you are welcome to join our group. Children who join our families
through adoption or foster care often have unique challenges and struggles. The
support of other parents can provide us with knowledge as well as encouragement.
We meet once a month to learn and share with other parents on this same journey.
Our group is both educational and supportive.
We meet on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in Founders Room C
Through-out 2012, the Adoption & Foster Support Group will continue to use many
of Dr. Karyn Purvis' materials in learning to recognize and understand the unique
challenges faced by adopted and foster children. We also will dedicate some months
to providing support for one another by sharing our trials and successes. Please
feel free to join us at any time. For more information Contact

Trauma & Adoption
When a child is added to your family through adoption, he or she may come with traumatic
experiences that make it difficult for your child to grow and develop healthy attachments,
relationships, and behaviors. Despite your love, your lifelong commitment to your
child, and your safe, nurturing home, your child may continue to suffer from the
effects of previous trauma. I will provide an overview of trauma through the lens
of adoption, give families some basic activities to strengthen their relationship
with their child, and provide recommendations for services should they need further
assistance.
